I’m here in CO. Our rates are double what we paid in WA and for good reason. People are speeding, weaving in and out of traffic all while texting. I’m surprised I haven’t been hit yet.

Why will homeowners with market insurance pay higher rates to subsidize those living in fire-prone areas? Insurance was underpriced given the massive risk in Cali and now it is being appropriately priced. The FAIR plan is insolvent and has to grab money from the insurance companies.

And the FAIR plan is well administered?

If paying people well and having overhead means the scheme is solvent, then so be it.

I would love to see a government-run insurance scheme that doesn’t dip into general taxpayer funds, but we are in the real world where politicians want cheap insurance.

What good is an insurance scheme if it doesn’t have enough cash to cover claims? Insurance isn’t the bad guy (this time). If it was the government running it rather than a private corporation they would just be increasing taxes on everyone rather than property owners, which would be more regressive.
