Bravo to Chicago author Jonathan Eig for writing this long and readable biography of MLK. It has the immediacy, depth and rapid pace of an engrossing novel, all the more engaging for being a story of real life.

Female Nude (1796), chalk and charcoal on paper by Henriette Lorimier (1775-1854), is exhibited in French Neoclassical Paintings from The Horvitz Collection, at the Art Institute of Chicago until 6 January 2025. The picture foreshadows Degas and Renoir decades before the advent of Impressionism.

Yesterday I visited the Art Institute of Chicago and saw the wonderful exhibition "Woven" featuring the baskets of Jeremy Frey. Astonishing blend of tradition and innovation.
