Kinkakuji, Kyoto's Golden Pavilion, is a stunning Zen temple built in 1397 as a retirement villa for shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. After his death in 1408, it was converted into a temple as per his will. The temple has a rich history, including being burned down multiple times, most recently in 1950. It was rebuilt in 1955 and remains a symbol of Kyoto's heritage, reflecting beautifully in a serene pond amidst tranquil gardens.
