I don't know enough to have more of an opinion unfortunately, but I'm thankful for you sharing some of this critique so I can learn more perspectives!

I take issue with Klein's approach, especially because it feels like we've just been putting bandaids on bigger and bigger wounds in our social system. But I at least appreciate a guy who sees a crisis in housing and wants to solve it as quickly as possible, even if it means sacrificing some ethos

What I understand from having friends who are fans of Klein is that he is personally focused on making a material difference in the present, and my guess is he finds it more possible to influence zoning laws in the short term than the whole root issue (capitalism)

That's really interesting and definitely needs to be considered! Now I kind of wish I'd read the book and this whole post so I could respond more fully

"Go hang around the lower class neighborhoods, so you can scare workers into continuing to work themselves to death so they can say they at least aren't one of You."

Is this a cycle of fate? Are they doomed by the narrative? Do they live and die forever, unable to touch without the threat of violence?

Though tbh Two Steves nicely sidesteps the "but what makes things real" discussion which is probably exhausting

I love the Two Steves metaphor too! The way that I've always explained it is that, sure, gender is a construct, but it doesn't mean it's not real NOW.

Ritalin did not end up working out for me personally but I do sometimes miss being that productive!!!
