This has been a very stimulating journey with #ElisaMartínArévalo, #Paulina, #JuanLupiáñez, and
#MariagraziaCapizzi

Many of the ideas have come from our trips, coffee breaks, and moments that I cannot describe with 300 chr, but that you will feel reading it. Thank you!

Overall, the present results call into question whether the perceptual benefits predicted by entrainment theories are generalizable across designs

On the contrary, our findings join a large group of studies that have failed to replicate the foundational results (e.g., doi.org/10.1016/j.br...)

The only noticeable difference in our two experiments was an overall (phase-independent) effect of block

That is, participants showed slower responses and larger pupil size across the whole experiment with arrhythmic blocks, which suggests higher processing and arousal

Similar findings were observed for pupillometry and saccade rate: no difference in pupil size and saccade rate preceding the target between in-phase and out-of-phase moments

Entrainment theories propose that attentional fluctuations can be synchronized with external rhythms🥁🔍

However, the behavioral results from literal and conceptual replication tasks failed to find an entrainment effect: in-phase did not lead to better outcomes than out-of-phase targets!
