Concerning slavery, some intellectuals here in Brasil tell an interesting story: the British powerful guys were already planning colonization in Africa, so ending slave trade could help weaken some local leaders.
So it's not all good intentions, even if some guys were really good.

Shouldn't we be talking to guys in Degrowth? Trying to convince them about focusing on UBI, progressive taxation and other things we consider more affirmative?
Instead of just saying they're wrong.
Coming close to people who agree with us in many things, isn't it what you usually say?

My case: UBI and tax the rich.
It could bring meaningful change. When you segregate income and job, society can get rid of the BS of "we need growth to create jobs, blabla". People on Degrowth should embrace it.
And those things can be done inside the current economic system.
