The outlet channel from the #SnakeRiver #thermal area, looking up from the footbridge.

Park rules allow you to soak where these hot waters mix with the cold waters of the Snake, but you are responsible for your own safety in the #backcountry.

#Grizzly track on #FoxCreekTrail in #Yellowstone. Uphill from here, I met a sow and three cubs at about 15 yards/meters. They were lovely.
This family may be the one that had been harvesting berries at west #HeartLake two weeks earlier.

It's been interesting to watch the shift in Fox News website coverage of #NoKings.

Before: "unrest," "fears of violence," "radicals," and so on.
After: acknowledging the demonstrations were peaceful but "Leftist," quoting participants' support for democracy, American values.

Apropos of nothing, but I maintain reviews of #backcountry campsites in some places, including #Yellowstone. My current favorite is 6D1 #LowerMountainCreek (pictured).

Great views with all the modern conveniences for only a few dollars a night. These are *your* national parks!

There's a too-common narrative that #USA did well during #COVID #pandemic. This week it's justifying attacks on #vaccines.

It's worth looking at data. The US did poorly among richer #OECD countries, with 2.5 x Canada's death rate. (#Canada is a typical rich country and like us in urbanization.)

#Sunset on the #PigeonRiver, at the end of the #GrandPortage.

At this site, the #voyageurs would put the year's supplies onto canoes headed west, while repacking #beaver #furs from canoes onto their backs for the portage to Lake Superior.

How to read this graph:

Markets thought #Trump would be good for the economy, now realize that he's an idiot.

After setting up camp, it was time to explore the #ShoshoneGeyserBasin - the largest geyser basin in #Yellowstone without a road. It's also larger than any other basin in the world other than the big three in Yellowstone.

This #red-tailedhawk kept watch over the #DeLacyCreek drainage. It tolerated me without difficulty, preferring to look for rodents in the grasslands.

#DeLacyCreek gradually gives way to wetlands as you approach #ShoshoneLake in #Yellowstone.

Day hikers should have lunch, explore as they like, and return. #Backpacking? Camp here, go around lake, or overnight to #ShoshoneGeyserBasin.

The #trail along #DeLacyCreek starts with this nondescript forest scene. It will take us to #ShoshoneLake and then to camp near the #ShoshoneGeyserBasin.

Eventually the route takes you out of the bush and into the #tundra. No trail, but I think you can find the route without difficulty.

After fording #EagleRiver, you ascend through chest-to-head-high brush, including #fireweed like these. It's weird not to see your feet (or trail) while hiking a clear route.

On the way to #RavenGorge, #CrowPass Trail, #Chugach #StatePark.

Panoramic view of the Aspen Camp in #GreatSand#Dunes #NationalPark. You can see the dunes peeking through the trees; it's a short walk down to a viewpoint.

Apparently, four justices support the proposition that "l'état, c'est Trump." (Or at least, "la lois, c'est Trump.")

Two swing voters believe the moderate position that "l'état c'est parfois Trump."

The media story that "two justices sided with the liberals" completely misunderstands the issue.

Someone who engages regularly in projection may have been misled by a Mercator projection of the world.

"People say Greenland is really big, it's the biggest there is, bigger than Africa even. Nobody's been there so they don't know it's so big, bigger than anything else. Plus, it's white."

A detour from the #Thorofare Trail goes to this unusual thermal area-it has no water. It vents an unusual mix of deep-earth gasses that gave me a slight headache.
If you can't figure out the off-trail route on your own, you probably shouldn't go there.
