Hello Sheila, The explanation you provided is not acceptable. The USA, its president and all companies that operate there need to understand that the naming of international waters is governed by the UNGEGN (United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names). I understand that Google Maps may show two names when people from outside a jurisdiction navigate to places within jurisdictions where they may have officially recognised local names. For example when somebody from outside Ireland navigates Google Maps to our beautiful island they may see placenames like Dublin (Baile Átha Cliath) because what you'll see between those brackets is the official name by which the Irish Government has labeled its own capital city. Likewise, a Dutchman navigating Google Maps to the UK might see Londen (London) because in the Netherlands we call that city "Londen" with an e while its official name is "London". But in all those cases the countries in question have jurisdiction over the naming of those landmarks and their own Territorial Waters. So the names they give them are theirs to determine. And this is where the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico is different. The Gulf of Mexico consists primarily of international waters, NOT Territorial Waters belonging to the USA. So regardless of what your GNIS decides, it has ZERO authority to change the name of that body of water outside its own jurisdiction. So by all means, call it whatever you please for those poor unfortunates who are stuck in the USA. But when we, the almost 8 billion of us who are NOT beholden to that narcissist navigate to that area through Google Maps, kindly don't insult our intelligence by presenting us with his egomaniacal label of an area of the world that is not his to control. Thank you

My explanation for why I'm an "ignostic".
If you must, you can call me an "atheist" as you'll never see me "worshiping" or "praying". But if we are going to philosophise, you will have to call me an "ignostic", with an "i". How to explain this. Imagine you ask me whether I believe that a "knorble" exists. You can't just claim that since I don't know what that word means I don't believe. If, after a long, probing dialogue I discover that what you call "knorble" is actually my nose.... I always believed it existed. So. WTF is a "god"?
