Spencer Segalla’s book is a good resource, and Kaoutar Ghilani is turning her dissertation about Arabization in Morocco into a book and that could also be very relevant.

There are real strides made early on to engage Jews in the national polity, but they often gave way to nationalists advocating the flawed notion of a homogenous state to which Jews were seen as foreigners. It goes for Europeans, many who lived their whole lives in Morocco, too.

This is super interesting! I’ve been researching how Jews fit into North African decolonization and one of the things that become apparent, in Morocco as well, is that there is tension between agents who want to recognize Jews as organic parts of national community and those who don’t.
