Civics classes were offered for one year at my high school. I’m not confused by the average American not knowing what they’re voting for, I’m disturbed by it. I also firmly believe it is by design.

Unfortunately I think the issue is more that everyone thinks they’re the rebels when actually it’s quite the opposite. Media literacy is a skill that many aren’t taught and more refuse to cultivate.

I don’t write about Black history and Black futures to decenter Whiteness.

I write to honor a cultural and intellectual legacy that predates European colonialism, transcends labels like "minority” and “marginalized,” and offers critical insights to reimagine democracy.
