Dr Owen Catchpole FRSNZ, was awarded the Scott Medal for being a world leader in the development of processes to extract high-value bioactive chemicals from biological materials using ‘supercritical’ solvents.

Professor @nick-golledge.bsky.social was awarded the Hutton Medal for his cutting-edge contributions to modelling of the Antarctic ice sheet, and research on climate change, including his role as a Lead Author for the most recent Assessment Report from the IPCC.

Distinguished Professor Linda Tuhiwai Smith (Ngāti Awa, Ngāti Porou) CNZM FRSNZ was awarded the Rutherford Medal last Thursday for her role in advancing education and research for her pioneering contribution to transforming research for Indigenous Peoples globally.

Royal Society Te Apārangi selected Dr Vineet Shah, of Callaghan Innovation, for the Cooper Award— the Early Career Research Excellence Award for Technology, Applied Sciences and Engineering— for transforming concrete waste into a sustainable low-carbon additive for cement.

Professor Niels Kjærgaard, was awarded the Hector Medal for his contribution to the advancement of scientific understanding of fundamental particles, through experimental studies of atomic collisions and light-scattering using ultracold gases. His award was accepted on his behalf by his students.

Dr Vincent O'Malley was awarded the Humanities Aronui Medal for his contribution to the research, knowledge, and public understanding of New Zealand history, particularly of the New Zealand Wars and Māori-Pākehā relations throughout the nineteenth century.

An AgResearch team was awarded the Pickering Medal for breeding sheep which emit less methane, and for determining the potential reduction of methane emissions if these sheep can be farmed throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.

Dr Hinekura Smith (Te Rarawa, Ngāpuhi, Te Ati Awa), Unitec | Te Pūkenga, has been awarded the Te Kōpūnui Māori Research Award for her PhD research titled ‘Whatuora: Whatu kākahu and living as Māori women’. Her whānau accepted the award on her behalf.
