Like it's nice to walk around, but I got a $7 bean and cheese burrito at a Larchmont cafe the other week that tasted microwaved and was thinking the whole meal that for same price I could get a top tier burrito from any of several food stands a couple blocks east, like what are we doing here.

People (I think not with the city, just people who lived nearby) also planted cacti on that patch of soil after the operation as hostile architecture against unhoused people.

There are a few green bins out on the sidewalk in front of the building I live in and it's unclear if they're for the tenants in this building or an adjacent building or what. They've just been out there for a few days unclaimed.

In LA the ADA is cited all the time as an excuse to do sweeps against unhoused people, and when you point out to the city council members ordering those sweeps that a lot of those unhoused people are disabled themselves, or that the sidewalk wouldn't be ADA compliant anyway, they don't give a shit.

True! There's also the neoliberal corruption of @cd13.lacity.gov Hugo Soto-Martinez and CD1 Eunisses Hernandez sicking cops on unhoused people and destroying their tents, documents, and medication in the same kinds of sweeps that they campaigned against. DSA should hold them accountable.

I've seen "Inside Safe" operations launched as surprise raids against encampments. I've talked to people who didn't know where they would be sent but knew that the "offer" of housing had an "or else" of police harassment. Inside Safe violates the rights of people whose only "crime" is poverty.

It is ghoulish how the Bass administration celebrates hurting unhoused people. When real housing is available the city can just offer it to people without sending cops and sanitation to destroy people's property. Inside Safe is a corrupt fig-leaf to justify violence against the poor.
