On this day, 110 years ago, my great grandad and his mates from 10th Battalion Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) went over the top for the first time at Loos. He, with too many of his mates, is commemorated on the Loos Memorial to the Missing.

Remembering Ptes Willie Roxburgh and Ernie Becker and the others from 16th Battalion Royal Scots who went over the top on this day in 1916 and would not see then end of the day. They have no known grave and are commemorated alongside 72,335 others on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing.

I also visited the site of Operation Carthage - the site of the bombing of the Gestapo HQ in Copenhagen. This time, unfortunately, there were civilian casualties when an aircraft crashed into a school and following aircraft assumed it was the target and dropped their bombs.

Sorry for the delay! Day 24 of my Scottish Craft Beer Advent Calendar. I’m not a huge fan of stout; however, these were mostly IPA type beers - I’d drink any of them again - with a couple of lager type beers- they were fine. See you again next year!
