When you are single, you are free. No having to worry about a terrible relationship partner ruining or hurting you. No having to worry about a partner not approving of certain hobbies or likes of yours (e.g. able to enjoy all the anime figurines you'd like without worrying about being seen as weird)

But I ignored my friends and family because I thought romantic relationships for the end all be all for happiness. I was blinded to the love I already had all around me. When I realized that, when I realized that I could be happy on my own, that's when I became happier

You must forge your own happiness before you can expect someone else to give you it, or you will not receive it from others, even if they try. I learned that my sadness and loneliness was a perspective issue. I was never alone. I had friends and family

I was single for 7 years straight since high school graduation, and my first girlfriend in 7 years SA'd me a week in, and I desperately wanted out, and was granted that. I learned then that I was far happier single than with her. Happiness doesn't come from others, it comes from within.

I can’t imagine believing that I, personally, am at precisely the maximum level of acceptable gender weirdness and anyone further down the scale needs to be bullied into compliance, yet it seems like a lot of my fellow binary trans people feel that way. I don’t get it.

It tends to be due to internalized transphobia & an unexamined belief that if queer people just assimilated enough, we’d be automatically accepted by straight cishet society.
That is not how progress is made & rights are won, though. That is a lie told to us by the bigots who have hurt us.
