Assistant professor of biomedical data science and dermatology at Stanford. AI for healthcare. Associate editor at NEJM AI and the Journal of Investigative Dermatology. Mother of a sassy girl and a baby boy.
Today I went on a Stanford sponsored grant writing retreat for junior faculty. Given the constant assault on academia, the mood was muted but at least we got beautiful views.

Remembering @atulbutte.bsky.social at #CHIL2025. The world lost an amazing light and mentor. He helped shape my career and the careers of many others in the medical informatics and medical AI space.

We are kicking off #CHIL2025 with Dr. Maia Hightower. As a program organizer, we are showing our values by centering health equity and responsible AI. @ahli-cc.bsky.social

With the destruction of federal funding for research, people have been hoping foundations fill in some of the gaps. HHMI decided to suspend their competitions AFTER applicants had already spent hours working on the application.

Reed Jobs says what I wish every VC would say and do: Stand up for science! He says if VCs don’t stand up for science, they don’t deserve to be in the space. @statnews.com #STATBreakthrough

A Stanford assistant professor and a Berkeley assistant professor walk into the #STATBreakthrough summit. There’s no punchline, just commiserating about the destruction of American science.

Susan Desmond-Hellman: I am mad. Americans are going to suffer and die because of the decisions of Mr. Kennedy and cuts to scientific funding. #STATBreakthrough @statnews.com

Georges Benjamin: For every dollar we put into research, we get 2.64 dollars back. This enterprise produces innovation and economic activity. #STATBreakthrough @statnews.com

Innovation in pharma has been completely disrupted due to the dramatic cuts to science and uncertainty in the political landscape. As a scientist, I can say we are all buckling down and innovation will be impact. #STATbreakthrough @statnews.com

I stand strongly against anti-semitism and if you read the Harvard president’s comments, so do they. The federal government has no place taking over universities.

Amazing talk from @emilyalsentzer.bsky.social at the @dbdsstanford.bsky.social and Accenture summit. Trained a graph neural networks on 40,000 simulated patients representing 2000+ diseases and evaluated on real undiagnosed disease network.

This makes me so upset. The reason everyone needs to get a Measles vaccine is to protect not only themselves but the vulnerable people in our community who are too young to get vaccinated or may have impaired immune systems.
