Looking back on his career, I am reminded that Richard Chamberlain had astonishing range. In Ken Russell's The Music Lovers, as a tortured Tchaikovsky, he demonstrated his piano skills as well. In requiem. R.I.P.

Hope everyone is well. Spring break was restorative. Attended a Knicks game. Watched Severance episodes, read a mystery and finally dug into the Capra at Columbia blu-ray box set. What a treat! Taken with this shot from Lady for a Day- filmed through water-drops cascading in the foreground. Dreamy.

In honor of Anna Magnani's birthday, if you haven't seen her performance as a desperate stage mom, you must watch her in Luchino Visconti's Bellissima (1951). A moment I love is how she taps impatiently in time with the barre exercise before she interrupts her daughter's lesson. #botd #filmsky

Remembering composer Michel Legrand #BOTD my favorite musical jest in The Umbrellas of Cherbourg-with no spoken dialogue but continuous song- is after Guy sings he's going to see the opera Carmen and his friend sings he doesn’t like opera bc it has “too much singing...movies are better.”

TL cleanse. John Williams #botd and his gift for playfulness. I often replay this for the orchestration. He picks up Victor Young's The Quiet Man score for a few measures, seamlessly keeps rhythm with the E.T. theme and tags the theme's bars at the close-up of shoes and frogs. So good. 🎶

This semester I added The Insider (1999) directed by Michael Mann #botd - how it explores the way corporate brass tries to kill journalists' news stories to avoid the threat of lawsuits and liability. Recommend this film as a new watch or rewatch.
