All I can think is 'poor bloody fish'. And is it a recent record or a genuine historical one? Callum Roberts' books are excellent on the changes over time caused by overfishing and other harm.

Lots of damson too around here in Herefordshire - not much cherry plum by comparison. I used to live on the Isle of Wight with lots of all three, and the cherry plum always our in flower first, so I'm missing it now.

That penguins and snow video was great! I know I'm still a sceptic about many animals in zoos. But that time you and Ruth and I went there for your birthday and I saw the leaf-cutter ants did change things...

I agree we need to be careful where people have woodburning stoves. They're banned from cities, and rightly so. But where people in the countryside have no methane supply and are surrounded by woodland and other greenery, the emissions are absorbed. And better than burning fossil fuel, oil or gas.

I still don't understand why people claim this. The point of a woodburning stove is that the combustion gases are behind the glass and go up the chimney. And a good stove fuelled with dry wood at the right temperature burns cleanly. What are people in the country supposed to do? Freeze?

Well said George. What gets me is that the Labour Party is no longer run democratically. Party members voted for a fairer voting system at conference, and most Labour MPs agree, and yet a tiny proportion of those people block that decision. No more kings!
