An absolute joy to see Helen O'Hara play with Tanita Tikaram in Manchester last night. Great fun catching up with Helen afterwards too, with the super talented Katerina and Ollie, who had sung with RNCM orchestra in the astonishing Helen and Tim Burgess show earlier this year.

From the moment we first met Brian Bear at Louder Than Words this weekend, we could tell by his sartorial elegance that he had fabulous taste in books.

Big Paul Windmill has left us. He could be hard and fierce, and he could be soft and gentle. He could be full of bluff and bravado, and he could be deep thinking and sensitive. He was cultured, intelligent and bare-arsed rough. He’ll be missed. Godspeed Windy. Love to all who loved him.

Coincidentally, we have been urging Dave Waddington to read Tony Harrison. We were surprised he hasn't. Dave was born in a pit village and became a professor. There’s something of Tony Harrison about him. And it can be spotted right through these two books.
