Hello! My nick is RottenMustard, and i'm an aspiring artist! I've been wanting to learn for years... However, I always put it off because of my laziness. But now I'm determined! 💪
I will post every day, or most of them, to see the progress i make and to force myself to draw consistently.
Hey! I haven't posted in a while, mostly because I feel like a good 90% of accounts following me here are bots, so i didn't feel like doing it :/
I haven't stopped drawing though! I've been trying to use charcoal lately. These are the last couple of things i did.

Currently trying to draw my Barbatos gunpla! I tried to find the midpoint and use the other techniques to find the correct proportions and i think they're pretty accurate. Not perfect but it's a complex object so i'm still satisfied with it. I've only done the leg for now, i'll finish it later.

I tried to copy this Van Gogh drawing. At first i tried to replicate every single line but it quickly became overwhelming so i simply emulated the style. It was fun, even though the original is obviously way better. I think it has to do with the different thicknesses of the lines 🤔

I read part of the chapter about proportions, it's really interesting and i bet the techniques it teaches will be super useful in the future. Now that i think about it they are pretty obvious, but it never occurred to me to use the pencil as a measuring tool lol

I will stop counting the days, it was getting old really quickly. Anyway, i did this drawing of a vase of flowers. Let's just say i decided i don't like drawing still life lol. Still, the exercise was about alternating between free and controlled drawing, and that i did, so it's still a success.

Day 12: Today was a really stressful day so I'm very tired and didn't proceed with the lessons of the book. I did do a random sketch to train even just a little bit but nothing worth sharing.

Day 11: Today's project was about copying the photograph on the left, while paying attention to matching its tones. I think i did a decent job with the tones but once again the proportions are quite off. I really need to practice them but don't know how, i hope there'll be a chapter about this topic

Day 10: Did six 1-minute gesture drawings, three 2-minute connected-line drawings, and one 5-minute burn of my desk. The burn isn't great, i could have done it better, but i do enjoy doing gesture drawings: i had already done some in the past. I also did a tonal bar, which I think came out alright.

Day 9: I couldn't draw anything yesterday nor the day before because i was super busy, but today i made this copy of Degas's "La Chanson du Chien". It was really fun and interesting :) I think it's the best thing i've drawn thus far, even though it's not exactly original, of course.

Day 6: I don't really have anything to show this time around because the following part of the book was about studying the style of various famous artists and kinda trying to emulate them by going over their art with the pencil without actually drawing anything. It was pretty interesting nonetheless

Day 5: I finished the first chapter of the book! The last exercise was about drawing a "complicated echanical object". Closest thing i could find was my controller. I don't think it came out too bad, but i gotta start studying perspective pretty soon.

Day 4: As i said, i did another sketch of my hand. Except for the mess on the right, i quite like how this one came out. Also, i read more of the book and did another exercise, which asked to draw a bottle of tainted glass, focusing on drawing the shapes of the reflections. It was pretty fun!

Day 3: I did another hand drawing, with a different pose. I'm still not satisfied, messed up some of the fingers and couldn't really recover them, and the proportions are quite off. I like the thumb though. I think i will use this hand exercise as a sort of warm-up sketch from now on.

The second exercise was to draw your own hand, looking at it from the fingertips. It was pretty challenging but fun. I think i could have done it better: I might try it again tomorrow, together with the following project of the book.

To start off, i bought a bunch of pencils, a sharpener and a couple books: Keys to Drawing, by Bert Dodson, and Figure Drawing, by Jake Spicer. I began reading the former. The first exercise, which i did yesterday, was to draw my feet. I'm pretty happy with the result :)
