There are things to enjoy in life. Like Amy and the other characters who I see a bit of her in, I wanna take joy in life, fun, art, friendship, love, helping the ones I love, and simply being a girl; even if the world tells me I shouldn't.

Happy belated TDOV to all my trans siblings out there!

It is, quite frankly, a fucking terrifying time to be trans right now. I spend so much of my time fretting over everything.

But even so, I wanna find joy in the good things in life. I can dress up pretty, I can create art. Hell, my crush asked me out last week, and that made me really happy!

And god I wanna see Amy get a big role in the next 3D Sonic game to coincide with Sonic 4. I wanna see them go even harder on the magical girl aspect of her character that Frontiers brought to the surface. I want her to get a big spectacle boss fight where she takes down a huge robot!

But just cause I feel this disconnect, and have a personal dislike of the romance she's most associated with, doesn't mean I don't still enjoy Amy! She's an utter delight under the right writers, and I love seeing her do her thing. Lord knows I popped off when she was in the post credits of Sonic 3

In a way, that's why I've latched onto the magical girl genre as hard as I have for the past year+. I see Amy's kindness, her go-getter attitude, her mischievousness, and her fighting prowess to various degrees in characters like Hibiki, Madoka, and Nanoha; but in a more sapphic light and context

Especially with some people asserting she's less feminine nowadays when all that's really changed is that her crush on Sonic defines her less (and is still a part of her character! She still likes him and is still very much so a sweet silly girly girl! She just has stuff going on outside of Sonic!)

My relationship with Amy now is complicated. Without getting into the weeds of cyclical Amy discourse, as a trans lesbian it feels weird to have this character who I identified so much with as a kid be so defined by her crush on a guy by both a lot of official Sonic stuff and the fandom.

Still love those first three seasons tho! They're a ton of fun and made me cry so much. Here's hoping I enjoy Reflection and Detonation whenever I get around to watching those movies, and that discotek eventually releases the movie adaptations of the first two seasons cause I wanna check those out.

Sidenote, I also read like halfway through Vivid after I finished StrikerS, but I dropped it cause I didn't enjoy Vivid anywhere near as much as the first three seasons of Nanoha. It feels like it was all of the things I don't like about Nanoha but multiplied, with barely any of the good qualities 😔
