My take is that JJ Abrams doing a remake of Episode 4 (1977), in the form of Episode 7 was always a terrible choice.
Anyone who was doing a sequel to it, would had been handcuffed by common sense into cleaning the slate to distance from the boring remake elements. Rian did great within constraints
