Research on western capital punishment says it is equivocal, This is why I referenced other cultures as 15-20 years on death row is not the same as swift justice. This does not make it moral, just more effective. Saudi Arabia has identical Captial Punishment per capita but 1/5 the murder rate.

Super counter intuitive I know but hard to get outside of our western view and system. Yes studies of western capital punishment show no real difference. What is the murder rate in countries with extreme and quick capital and corporeal punishment? Not saying it is moral or the way to go.

If the death penalty was immediate it would be a great deterrent. So would chopping off hands for stealing, genital mutilation for infidelity, & other medieval measures. 1) we don’t always get it right, & 2) It is tantamount to hitting your child’s as a punishment to show you how wrong hitting is.
