Indeed.

But we were one when he took over. Which is the point no?
December 21, 2025 at 7:33 PM
We were 11th when he took over. There’s a reason the previous regime, from coaches to DoF to board members got the boot.
December 21, 2025 at 6:15 PM
Agreed. The inflation in football finances over the last decade makes any raw comparison meaningless. We paid similar fee for Gyokeres as City did for De Bruyne but a decade apart.
December 21, 2025 at 2:04 PM
Yes. We’ve gone from a mid table team that was sinking full of past it uncommitted, unprofessional players to a perennial title contender. We’ve spent money - so have Utd, Chelsea. How much did city spend to get there? PSG? look at Liverpool this season.

You don’t get a squad full of excellent players, 3 title challenges and be top of the league at Christmas with mediocre management.

Enjoy your Christmas and the rest of the season.
December 21, 2025 at 1:16 PM
You describe the current situation as ‘mediocre’ and yet point to excellence that was in place when Arteta took over. I can’t help think you’re so determined to criticise MA that you’ll argue the sun rises in the west.
I’m tagging out now. Hope you enjoy the rest of the season. Up the Arsenal

Elneny! Vibes, yes. On the field? No.

‘Terrible’ can’t be a quote from me. I said they’re mid table talent and Arteta has improved players who’ve stayed and helped recruit superior successors. Which is undeniable in my view

Nelson!!! He’s on loan to Brentford’s bench. Come on. Nketiah is on the bench at Palace, ESR barely starts for Fulham.
I’d love for those lads to be leading us to a title charge but there’s a reason why they’re elsewhere. Surely you can see that?
December 20, 2025 at 1:23 PM
I can’t and won’t say the Arteta is without flaw or has infinite time. But to downplay his role in our improvement over the last 6 years is ridiculous.
December 20, 2025 at 1:19 PM
The young fellas needed coaching and to improve. Which they have - Arteta has played a big part of that.
The rest of the squad he inherited all had serious question marks about ability, attitude, physicality, speed, mental awareness, tactical awareness. And have been moved on.
December 20, 2025 at 1:18 PM
Saka, Saliba and Martinelli were kids. Xhakas relationship with the club was broke. Willock barely plays for Newcastle - not good enough for a title challenger.

So the squad wasn’t there at all. In my view.

I mean look at this lot en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019%E2... outside Auba, is there one you’d take into the current squad?

Ozil was a passenger off the ball and Auba at the end of his peak. I loved KT but he’s not a pillar of a title challenger. He also had Lacazette, Leno, Sokratis, Guendouzi, torreira. Mid table talent. At best.

I see Sky’s top pundit is hard at work again. Phenomenal analysis Gary.
September 29, 2025 at 7:45 AM
Is it me or does Martinelli leave the ball slightly behind him in smaller spaces? And his decision making is just slightly too slow to spot the option
September 14, 2025 at 12:21 PM
With 5 touches before he looks up…

I love the lad but…

How you think half a new starting XI has changed our style or been integrated into it.
September 13, 2025 at 7:14 PM
I so agree. I’d add a respect for tradition and local idiosyncrasies. Especially local foods. Such a pity that lot insist on association with my favourite sport.
September 13, 2025 at 7:11 PM
Come on. Home against Forest is not the same challenge. Half a new starting XI compared to last season. You can’t go to Anfield gung ho, especially after Saliba is injured.
September 13, 2025 at 6:06 PM
Seem to remember the S*n ran a similarly worded editorial about Benjamin Zephaniah back in the 80’s. He’s channeling Kelvin McKenzie

Dead right. Just like if they decide an employee has brought the club into disrepute by, say, commenting on the Gaza situation. Measures taken are the responsibility of club governance.

Does he not understand what inverse means?
