Proudly serving #NC02. Former civil rights attorney and NC legislator.
Committees: Judiciary and Science, Space, and Technology
Minneapolis is the latest community to experience violence at the hands of ICE and CBP. We saw it in North Carolina too. Federal immigration officers have been abusing their power and violating people's rights.

Our people have said: enough is enough.
January 8, 2026 at 6:22 PM
Western NC is STILL waiting for the federal dollars it needs to fully recover.

I led @adams.house.gov, @foushee.house.gov, & Rep. Don Davis to introduce a bill to cut the red tape and get Western NC the relief they deserve, faster.

Happy Hanukkah! May this holiday bring all those celebrating joy and light, and serve as a powerful reminder of the resilience of the Jewish people.

Chag Sameach!

Next week is our last legislative week of the year and our last chance to preserve access to life-saving care for our constituents.

It's time for Republicans to join Democrats to extend the ACA tax credits and save health care access for millions of Americans.
December 12, 2025 at 8:49 PM
Today I led my NC colleagues in demanding Speaker Mike Johnson provide his plan to avoid a health care crisis.

With the looming expiration of ACA tax credits, hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians will face increased health care costs or loss of coverage.

Today I spoke about Fatima, a young woman from Wendell who was detained by CBP while simply doing her job. She has no criminal history, a pending asylum claim, and she was still denied bond.

We won't stop fighting until Fatima is home where she belongs.

I led my colleagues in calling on House leadership to reject an AI moratorium that would jeopardize protections for women and girls. We cannot turn back progress. We have a responsibility to create safeguards that protect against the harms of AI.

Happy Small Business Saturday! Let's shop local and support the businesses that power our local economy and make Wake County home.
November 29, 2025 at 4:49 PM
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope today is filled with laughter and good food with the people you love. Sending warm wishes from my family to yours.

It was wonderful to stop by Designed for Joy in Raleigh, which provides women in crisis with stability through employment.

It also has a retail space that is open to the public.

Fear and intimidation do not strengthen our country. I will continue calling on Congress to deliver comprehensive immigration reform that reflects who we are as a nation.
November 25, 2025 at 6:41 PM
Today, I gathered faith and school leaders, elected officials, and a business owner to discuss how immigration raids are hurting our people.

CBP's actions in North Carolina do not keep our community safe.
November 24, 2025 at 5:50 PM
I condemned the Trump administration's deployment of CBP to North Carolina on the House floor.

If Republicans actually cared about fixing our broken immigration system, they would work with Democrats on real solutions.
November 20, 2025 at 7:33 PM
This is how CBP is operating. Grabbing random people, even teens, off the street. North Carolinians are terrified, and this needs to end. www.cbs17.com/news/local-n...
November 20, 2025 at 3:37 PM
We all want safe communities, but CBP is operating without transparency and terrifying our people. They are going after people in churches, community centers, small businesses, and more.

They are not making North Carolina safer.
November 19, 2025 at 7:28 PM
With reports that CBP is in Raleigh, be sure to know your rights and what to do if you encounter federal immigration officers.
November 19, 2025 at 2:13 PM
I'm back in DC to vote against Republicans' bill that does nothing to address skyrocketing healthcare costs. I will always defend affordable healthcare and the people of North Carolina.
November 12, 2025 at 9:06 PM
Redistricting should be done with the input of the people, not just the powerful.

I joined my NC Democratic colleagues to introduce a bill to create more transparency in the redistricting process.
November 7, 2025 at 8:28 PM
When food assistance is cut, the most at-risk in our communities feel it first. Food banks feel it next.

It's time for Republicans to work with Democrats to reopen the federal government and provide necessary food assistance.
November 5, 2025 at 8:39 PM
Today is election day, and there are many municipal elections in Wake County and across North Carolina.

Polls close at 7:30 PM. Be sure to cast your ballot before then!
November 4, 2025 at 8:35 PM
North Carolinians deserve fair representation, but Republicans are rigging our elections and silencing voters.

I'm joining @adams.house.gov, @foushee.house.gov, and Rep. Don Davis to introduce legislation to ensure our maps are drawn with accountability, fairness, and public input.
November 4, 2025 at 7:05 PM
The Republican healthcare crisis is hitting working Americans hard, causing insurance hikes that few can afford.

Here's how some North Carolinians will be affected. You deserve better.
November 3, 2025 at 9:35 PM
It was an honor to commemorate Día de Los Muertos at the Historic Oakwood Cemetery on Sunday.

I am so grateful to have joined our Raleigh community in celebrating the lives of loved ones we’ve lost and the traditions that keep their memories alive.
November 3, 2025 at 6:35 PM
Republicans created a healthcare crisis, and their shutdown is only making it worse.

I joined @housedemocrats.bsky.social for a hearing on the importance of making healthcare more accessible and affordable.
October 29, 2025 at 8:53 PM
Millions of Americans rely on Medicaid, Medicare, and ACA subsidies for their care. They can't afford Republican cuts to healthcare to give billionaires tax breaks.
