And the US doesn’t recognize the International Criminal Court’s jurisdiction. Sadly the only entity that might be able to do something is congress but we know how that’s going.

Given the US is one of the five permanent members of the UN and, as such, can veto any resolution it can’t do anything more than issue a statement.

But their use of the fillibuster gave them (party not in power) some leverage. Agree they abused it but it gave the party not in power some leverage. It's one of the few levers the dems currently have. Republicans will say dems are misusing as they had to pass their big bill as reconciliation.

but is that what you want? i understand your point and yes, they could do that and end the shutdown but then there will be no stopping them at all (granted, there isn't much stopping them now). But wouldn't it be even worse for the party not in power?
