I managed to get a good workout in this morning, so I'm super pleased with myself! Now, I'm off to get a coffee with my wife and 🌼

A short WIP for tonight's #WIPWednesday. I'm currently deciding whether to publish the whole fic once it's been completed or commit to a biweekly single chapter upload.
“Seokjin-ssi, how does it feel to go against your own team captain in the finals of the World Championships?” Seokjin smiles. “It’s very surreal, I can tell you that. Yoongi-ssi and I train together, so we know each other better than anyone else. Although that aspect of our fight was mentally very challenging, I think we achieved a great outcome for Korea.” “Tomorrow, you will be fencing together in the team event,” the reporter continues. ”Do you think tonight’s win will impact your teamwork?” Yoongi notices the smile slowly slipping off Seokjin’s face. “No, of course not,” Seokjin says quickly. “I trust Yoongi-ssi’s decision-making and will follow his lead as team captain.” “That’s great to hear,” the reporter says. “Can we expect another gold medal tomorrow, then?” Seokjin pauses for a moment before he speaks. “We have been training very hard for the past year, and we are all in great shape. I don’t want to make any premature predictions, but I believe we can win a medal tomorrow as a team. Yoongi-ssi in particular has been working incredibly hard to ensure that everyone - myself included - knows what we need to do tomorrow, that everyone knows their role within the team.”

My WIP for this week's WIP Wednesday comes with a question: how do you feel about this description of a fencing match between Yoongi & Jin? Is it enjoyable to read?

Glossary: a remise is a renewal of an attack after the first one has failed. It usually happens immediately after the first attack.
Before Seokjin puts on his mask, he smiles at Yoongi, eyes glinting with mischief. “Come on, then. Give me a hard time.” Yoongi rolls his eyes and pulls down his mask, fastening the strap behind his head with his free hand. As he salutes to his teammate, he can feel the corners of his mouth twitching upwards. This is going to be fun. Seokjin’s pace is relentless as he drives Yoongi to the back of the piste, forcing him to react. Yoongi takes his blade and parries, but before he can counter, Seokjin has already parried again. There is a second of reprieve when Yoongi manages to take control of Seokjin’s blade, pushing it just far enough to create an opening, arm shooting forward like a piston. Seokjin steps back but it is too late, Yoongi’s point has already made contact with his chest. Seokjin shakes his head, then heads back to the en garde line. His next attack is so lethally quick and precise that there is nothing Yoongi can do to stop it even if he wanted to. Seokjin’s blade nearly bends in half with the force of the attack, and Yoongi grimaces. That’s going to leave a nasty bruise, he thinks. Something about the way Seokjin fences riles Yoongi’s temper, and he launches himself at him, his point narrowly missing his teammate’s arm. Instead of retreating, Yoongi’s feet remain planted on the ground, and he quickly repositions his blade to renew the attack. At the beep of the scoring box, he grins triumphantly. This is one of the few times his remise has actually worked, and on Kim Seokjin, of all people. There is no time to rest on his laurels, however, because Seokjin does not give him even a second to catch his breath before launching his next attack. Their blades clash with a loud, metallic clang, and Yoongi finds himself struggling to break free from where Seokjin has caught his blade. As he momentarily pulls his arm back to parry, Seokjin’s arm shoots forward, point driving into the fabric of Yoongi’s sleeve. When they stop for a water break, Yoongi notices the quick rise and fall of Seokjin’s chest. His hair is plastered to his forehead and his face is flushed from exertion.

When I started this fic, I thought the plotline with coach Yoon would be a side plot that signals the turning point in SJ's & YG's relationship, but the more I write, it's become clear that it's part of a bigger narrative about abuses of power in performance sports. Here's my most recent WIP:
“Seokjin-ah,” Yoongi hears coach Yoon’s voice as he exits the changing rooms. “We need to talk.” “I don’t have anything to say to you, coach,” Seokjin says. “Please excuse me.” Coach Yoon blusters. “If you think you can get away with this kind of attitude, you’re sorely mistaken. There will be consequences.” “I’m more than happy to comply with any disciplinary processes once we’re back in Korea, but for now, I wish to focus on successfully wrapping up the worlds. If you would, please excuse me.” “Hey,” coach Yoon calls angrily. “Don’t walk away from me. Kim Seokjin!” Seokjin’s calm voice cuts through the air like a knife. “Please don’t touch me.”

I looked through my camera roll and realised that Seokjin may or may not have influenced my interview fit two days ago 🤣 (I have a Gucci monogram belt, but I thought it might be a bit of an overkill with my outfit 🤣).

Here's my contribution for WIP Wednesday! Some more Yoongi & Jin interaction & an explanation of some terms:
Cadet: a fencer between the ages of 11-16 (U17). They need to be 11 or under 17 on the 1st January of the year they're competing.
Piste: the fencing strip, place where a bout takes place.
“Got a lot on your mind, huh,” Yoongi hears coach Song’s voice behind him. Yoongi shakes his head quickly. “No, no,” he says. “I’m fine.” Although he has known coach Song since his cadet days, Yoongi still is not very keen on sharing how he feels with him. He is happy to pick his brain for advice that benefits his fencing, but asking for emotional guidance feels a step too far out of his comfort zone. “Don’t worry about Seokjin, he’s going to be absolutely fine,” coach Song says, smiling. “I’m not sure if Mr Yoon will live to see another day, but Seokjin will be grand.” Yoongi laughs, then schools his expression into a neutral one as coach Yoon walks towards him. “You ready,” he asks. “You’re fighting Jamal Henderson in ten minutes.” Yoongi nods. “I’m ready. Which piste is it?” “Twenty-four,” coach Yoon says. “Have you seen Seokjin-ssi?” “No, not since he finished here a few minutes ago. Do you need him?” Coach Yoon nods curtly. “I would like to have a word. If you see him, let him know.” “Of course. I’ll let him know,” Yoongi says as he reaches for his bag. “I’m getting changed, then I’ll meet you at the piste.” As he walks away, he thinks he can hear coach Yoon mentioning something along the lines of unacceptable behaviour to coach Song, but he cannot clearly make out what is being said. He finds Seokjin in the changing rooms. Seokjin is still wearing his full kit, he has not even bothered with undoing his collar. His hair clings to his damp forehead in wiry, messy strands. He briefly looks up from his phone when he notices Yoongi entering the room. “Are you up soon,” he asks. “Ten minutes, hyungnim,” Yoongi answers. “How are Hoseok and Namjoon getting on?” Seokjin grimaces. “Guarini knocked Hoseok out, and Namjoon is currently fencing Takada. They’re at 6-8 at the moment, so it’s possible Namjoon can bring it home.” “Guarini’s a tough one,” Yoongi says. “I’ve beat him a few times, but it’s always close between us.” Seokjin hums in affirmation. “I find that if you don’t pull a few points ahead at the start, it’s difficult to pull it back. He gets in your head, makes you question what you’re doing.” Yoongi nods as he zips his jacket up, leaving only the velcro on his collar undone. “I have to go,” he says. “Good luck, hyungnim.” Seokjin smiles, although the smile does not reach his eyes. “Same to you.”

I've been quiet this weekend because I went to a competition yesterday and spent the rest of the day dying of tiredness 😅 I'm really happy with my overall performance, but I'm gutted that I lost my elimination match 14-15 after leading for most of the fight.
