Armchair anthropologist, social worker, parent, partner, dog-lover.
Seconding request for pod content on Brio magazine. I still carry in my body the visceral reactions I had to the BS in that rag at age 16.

There is nothing more Christlike than using politics, wealth, and manipulation to gain power and influence!

As a social worker, I have yet to meet one client whose main trauma was “public school.” You wanna know where 99.9% of my clients’ trauma comes from? THEIR PARENTS. I will die on this hill: families can be (and often are) more traumatizing than “the world.”

I heard one homeschool family state they wanted to do so because schools are “traumatizing” and it protects their kids from all that. Nevermind that the father of the family was a raging narcissistic control freak and sexually harassed women.

Y’all aware of this
Study? Long time podcast listener, first time…tagger (?) Your pod helped me ID the connection points between my childhood and the current political climate. Keep up the good work everyone!

Nice to see my childhood and my experience of my parents empirically validated. I did hop off the crazy train of Christian Nationalism, as did both my siblings, in reaction to how we were raised. As a parent I cannot fathom raising a child in this manner.

This logic is in the same level of Bevis and Butthead “heh heh you said gay”

Maga is maximally immature.

Many have not yet realized they have been groomed by evangelical subculture and evangelical-adjacent conservative political movements to think tRump is the good guy. When the leader of your country sounds like the pastors, leaders, fathers, and cultural icons who groomed you, it’s hard to pull away

“No fortitude in the face of threats?” WTF? Clearly these dudes have never seen a woman deal with a mean-ass toddler or a belligerent teenage kid. All Women do is deal with threats, whether from their kids or inappropriate male strangers, co-workers, or neighbors!

To quote the infamous Inigo Montoya, “I don’t think that word means what you think it means.” These folks talking about the “sin of empathy” clearly have no idea what empathy actually means or how it ought to be employed in a healthy manner. It’s a straw-man to attack LGBTQ+/poor/non-white ppl

Haha, sadly yes. We just turned an entire nation into Mars Hill. Buckle up, ‘murica. You’re in for a rough ride.

Long time BBTB listener, first time poster. Was just musing on this listening to Christie & Walker’s stories today. The parallels between M@gadom, current administration, the kind of leaders discussed in the pod & the Dr. Dobson parenting method are…worth discussing and frankly, a dissertation.
