We, as Microsoft workers, former workers, and community members of conscience, are establishing a Liberated Zone on the grounds of the Martyred Palestinian Children's Plaza, formerly known as the Microsoft East Campus Plaza. We choose to take this step to escalate against Microsoft's active role in powering 22 months of genocide in Palestine. The Liberated Zone is born out of desperation and extreme urgency. The Liberated Zone is born out of our grief for wailing Palestinian mothers and watching shreds of Palestinian babies. The Liberated Zone is born out of radical love for the rich humanity of Palestinian people. Today, we answer Gaza's call to action to mobilize, confront, and escalate to force an end to this genocide powered by Microsoft technology. Today, we refuse to be part of the system that is insistent on dehumanizing Palestinians and enabling their mass murder; we refuse to be complicit in this genocide; we refuse to accept normalcy in the face of genocide. Today, we choose to revolt; we choose to rise up; we choose to disobey; and we choose to carry forward the torch of the intifada until every single inch of Palestine is liberated. Today, we put our employment, our immigration status, our livelihoods, and our bodies on the line because it is precisely the urgency that is needed to stop the waterfall of Palestinian blood. We cannot afford a second longer of silence as our labor powers the world's most well-documented and first AI-assisted genocide. Too often, we are told that our labor is apolitical, that our technology is neutral. Yet, Microsoft has made the active choice to be part of the economy of apartheid since 1991 with its technologies embedded across the Israeli military, prison system, police, universities, and schools – including in illegally occupied settlements. That is a political choice. As it stands today, Microsoft technology powers Israel's mass-surveillance weapon that collects and stores recordings of millions of mobile phone calls and texts made each day by Palestinians. That is a political choice. Every hour, the Microsoft-powered mass surveillance weapon is used to blackmail Palestinians, place them in detention, or even justify their killing after the fact. That is a political choice. Every day for the past 22 months, the Microsoft-powered mass surveillance weapon has been used to facilitate the bombardment and massacring of Palestinians in Gaza. That is a political choice. To put it simply, Microsoft and its executives exploited our labor to cement themselves as the technological backbone to the Israeli genocidal machine that is blackmailing, kidnapping, massacring, and maiming millions of Palestinians. In return, the same executives raked in hundreds of millions of dollars by powering and sustaining the Israeli settler-colonial project of genocide, apartheid, displacement, ethnic cleansing, and war crimes that have put and continue to put Palestinians’ self-determination and very existence at stake. In establishing the Liberated Zone, we liberate our workplace and reclaim our labor by refusing to do any work that could contribute to genocide and other crimes against humanity in Palestine and demanding Microsoft to do the following: Cut Ties with Israel Call for an End to the Genocide and Forced Starvation Pay Reparations to the Palestinians End the Discrimination Against Workers In establishing the Liberated Zone, we are taking inspiration from the Student Intifada and calling upon all workers of conscience to join the Worker Intifada – a revolutionary uprising of workers who refuse to have their labor exploited to power the genocide of Palestinians. After 77 years of occupation and over 22 months of witnessing the Holocaust of our time, we stop pleading for platitudes and instead force the institutions and entities we are a part of to end their role in powering Israel's genocidal campaigns of starvation and bombardment.

Where did this come from? Why isn't Gallo remaining as President Pro Tempore? An inability to perform the duties was apparent during his several months as Council President, but apparently everyone was just fine with that, never a mention. So what gives?

I want to be very clear on my position in the #Oakland Mayor's race. I have not, did not, never worked with/for Sheng Thao. Those are not my circles. I am working with @BarbaraLee_CA for Oakland Mayor. That being said, @lorenmtaylor came to me and my business partner 1/3 @DashielJohnson when he decided to run for Oakland City Council against @desleyb . In 2018 I knew then that @lorenmtaylor was NOT the progressive/liberal candidate that #District6 needed. He LITERALLY told me that he felt it was "his turn" to be in leadership. He is supported 2/3 by the tech/crypto people who want to "engineer" our social issues away. This is NOT the way forward people. Compassion, empathy, and common sense. I normally don't come out like this, especially when I'm working with a candidate but this is absolute bs. 3/3

Your occasional reminder that doctors here have notified the government of over 10,000 suspected measles cases since the start of this measles wave. One of my friends just told me that there are Measles cases in their kids' school in Bristol. You've heard all of the noise about measles cases in Texas, right? There were FIFTEEN times as many cases per person in Bristol than in Texas in February. 100 measles cases in the USA in a month... Alarms go off in the media. 150 measles cases in the UK in a month.... Absolute forking silence.

I see in my circumstances similarities to Israel’s use of administrative detention—imprisonment w/out trial or charge—to strip Palestinians of their rights.

I've always believed that my duty is not only to liberate myself from the oppressor but also to liberate my oppressors from their hatred&fear.
If anything, my detention is a testament to the strength of the student movement in shifting public opiniontoward Palestinian liberation. Students have long been at the forefront of change — leading the chargeagainst the Vietnam War, standing on the frontlines of the civil rights movement, and driving the struggleagainst apartheid in South Africa. Today, too, even if the public has yet to fully grasp it, it is students whosteer us toward truth and justice. The Trump administration is targeting me as part of a broader strategy to suppress dissent. Visa-holders,green-card carriers, and citizens alike will all be targeted for their political beliefs. In the weeks ahead,students, advocates, and elected officials must unite to defend the right to protest for Palestine. At stakeare not just our voices, but the fundamental civil liberties of all. My arrest was a direct consequence of exercising my right to free speech as I advocated for a freePalestine and an end to the genocide in Gaza, which resumed in full force Monday night. With January’sceasefire now broken, parents in Gaza are once again cradling too-small shrouds, and families are forcedto weigh starvation and displacement against bombs. It is our moral imperative to persist in the strugglefor their complete freedom.

A natalist conference featuring speakers including self-described eugenicists and promoters of race science, apparently including the man behind a previously pseudonymous race-science influencer account, and the founder of a startup offering IQ screening for IVF embryos, will be held at a hotel and conference venue operated by the public University of Texas, Austin. Last October, the Guardian reported that Pesta had joined a video call with a network of race-science researchers who claimed to have “under the table” access to sensitive genetic data at the UK Biobank. Another of Lasker’s co-authors on Global Ancestry and Cognitive Ability, Emil Kirkegaard, was the host of that video call.

The fact that two GOP senators pressed Kennedy on mifepristone side effects and reporting—and that he responded the way he did—signals that Republicans and the Trump administration are gearing up for a major push on this issue. And because abortion reporting features heavily in Project 2025, we already have a preview of their playbook: The conservative roadmap calls for funding for studies on the “risks and complications of abortion,” research that “explores the harms, both mental and physical, that abortion has wrought on women and girls,” and a mandate that the CDC collect data on “abortion-related maternal deaths.” Since 2023, Abortion, Every Day has tracked how anti-abortion activists increasingly define late’ abortion as anything after the first trimester. Because it’s not a real medical term in the first place, these groups have been able to characterize ‘late’ or ‘late term’ abortion however they want without pushback. The primary reason they’ve advanced the definition? So that Republicans can propose a national abortion ban at 15 weeks while claiming it’s simply a move to curb ‘late’ abortion. Remember ‘minimum national standard’? Finally, this is a tactic that Republicans used when they reworked the GOP platform’s abortion plank! As I noted at the time, Trump’s team—facing voter backlash over bans—played the media by claiming they removed the call for a national ban. In reality, they just swapped the explicit ban language for a push for fetal personhood and opposition to “late-term abortion.” The day after the GOP adopted that abortion plank, one of the men who drafted the language bragged about the slick switch-up. Ed Martin talked about the platform’s “opposition to a late term abortion, however you define that.” (Emphasis mine) “I call a late term abortion any abortion that is done after the baby is conceived, myself, in part because the term ‘late term abortion’ and some of the distinction of trimesters and all that was Roe v. Wade construct—it was made-up.”
