I also explored the city via the ferry and walked/ran across at least three bridges each day. I was blown away by beautiful Brisbane on my very first trip to Australia!

I got to see some old friends and made some new ones along the way.

That's a wrap on #OHBM2025! I taught in an educational course on hippocampal neuroanatomy and gave a symposium talk on the role of medial temporal lobe subregions in associative inference

This is your quarterly reminder that the hippocampus is a cortical (not subcortical) structure! Nicola Palomero-Gallagher underscored this point during our #OHBM2025 educational course!

Another huge loss to the field! His 1999 paper on the human MTL cortex lived on my desk for all five years of graduate school.

Starting in 2015 I had the opportunity to work with him through the @hipposubfields.bsky.social and visited his neuroanatomy lab in Albacete, Spain in 2023.

#RIP Ricardo

Had an injury this past year and didn't run from July to September. Hoping to stay healthy in 2025!

First picture has my 2024 running summary, second one has my running+cycling+other cross training mileage.

Them: you're from California, don't you miss the warm weather?

Me: Yes. Yes I do.

Happy Friday from a very chilly Toronto. Cats are fighting over the heat vent.

Graduate students Negar Mazloum-Farzaghi and Lydia Jiang spoke about best practices in Quality Control ("QC") for structural and functional MRI today at our monthly Methods Club meeting at the Rotman Research Institute. QC is an important (and often overlooked) first step for brain imaging!

Never had a viral tweet but I'm probably most well-known on the other site for tweeting about the hippocampal subfields using the tag "#subfieldWednesday" (on the Hippocampal Subfield Group's twitter account). I think this was our most popular tweet.

Earlier today post doc @grahamflick.bsky.social showed off how he has mastered the collection, temporal coregistration, and analysis of MEG and eye-tracking data, no easy feat! 🧠〰️👀🔗 Very excited to address new questions about how eye movements relate to memory formation!

ICYMI: Last month graduate student Negar Mazloum-Farzaghi published a paper where we evaluated the effectiveness of automated segmentation in measuring MTL subregion volumes in older adults across cognitive statuses, comparing a custom atlas from our lab with an existing one.

Will try to start posting over here more often....starting with a picture of some of the lab members who all decided to dress in monochromatic colors today. 🖤🤍
