Important and welcome that the government has reinstated maintenance grants for poorer students. Up until now these students have been the ones who have had to borrow most and repay at as much as 7%

I disagree. It takes courage to so clearly challenge the party he has joined

Clearly you have your anecdotal evidence and perhaps you’re right but mine is someone with very good and relevant A levels, a 2.1 Anatomy degree from an outstanding programme who has left the PA profession because of this controversy. A waste. As I said there should be a way to make this work.

At the outset you disagreed with the statement that PAs require a 1st degree in a biological science/anatomy course. However the vast majority of courses do require this and I have agreed that the few exceptions to this are concerning. There are many many very well qualified PAs

I would agree that entry quals should be rigorous and essentially include biological/science courses and clearly you flag up two that don’t and this is more than concerning. Having quickly checked about 15 I found 2 that were less rigorous.

Government careers information states that applicants for PA educ. programmes should have medical/health first degrees. It’s a little harsh to suggest that I’m lying. It might be helpful to post the source of your information as clearly you know something to the contrary.

A shortage of goods + services (for a specific reason) is just another way of saying excess money in the economy. I can see that this might then suggest alternative or additional strategies for countering inflation but managing an economy involves all sorts of levers and govt power is not unlimited.

Interesting but if a govt can decide what interest (rate?) it wants then why doesn’t it opt to pay a lower interest rate rather than the 5%or so it recently paid? Also can’t it rely on the B of E to control inflation through its setting of the ‘national’ interest rate?

Interest payments in govt debt.

Thank you for the conversation. I just think that markets also lose confidence when they see that the debt is acting as a drag on the economy and/or believe that a govt might decide to reduce the burden through a dose of inflation.

thank you. I appreciate that governments aren’t households and that money is quite tricksy but at the root of money is confidence and given our debt and deficit is high this impacts on scope for spending.

You’re right this is bending my mind :) I’d be grateful if you would explain this a little more.

I agree that the government has the power but funds need to come from somewhere to pay for the hospitals and healthcare. There’s private money to make this investment and these funds will not be steered elsewhere. it’s a real option in an imperfect world.

Private money pays for runways whereas public money pays for hospitals. Big difference and there’s no conspiracy.

Those dismissing PA often refer to their mere 2 years of training yet they all are post grads with biological science/ anatomy degrees. As such they should be useful but such damning criticism merely undermines. Find a workable solution!
