We adopted two half siblings and at some point we were talking and one used the word "mum" to refer to me and the other used it to refer to their birth mother.
Both is fine, relationships are more complex than simple words.

There is also a significant peak in earth's c14 levels from nuclear tests in the 60s which affects dating. Something similar could have happened to the aliens, depending on their timeline and civilization.

Different (human) tissues have different turnover times for carbon contained in it.

What gets me with these before and after shots is that I moved to Amsterdam in 1983, cycled everywhere and felt it was pretty good - certainly compared to my current situation in Dundee.

Though I probably witnessed some of the gradual change without noticing - I left in 2001

I took revenge. Going downhill a forest gravel road at some speed, headwind. Deer standing on the road, looking the other way. I eventually braked a bit, squeak, and deer looked around and levitated up the opposite bank.

We have a campervan but no car. It's awkward to drive in cities and a pain to park which helps to direct us towards the various bikes (cargo, E, folding) and public transport. We have a car club membership but don't actually use it that often. The van transports bikes and cats unlike the car club.
