just going to sit here, mending a hiking shirt (thorns! little bastards) and think abt the guy bragging about leaving a 3oz rain shell in the car to drop weight up a 4k ft climb but hauling some yeti bottle like that is not an unnecessary weight empty. uselessly heavy i am sorry
December 26, 2025 at 6:56 PM

December 25, 2025 at 6:56 PM
i have worn out some of the seams on a ballcap hiking in a way i don't really understand bc i do not walk headfirst into that many tree branches
December 25, 2025 at 6:23 PM
i think the very large crows are walking across the roof it is very disconcerting
December 25, 2025 at 6:12 PM
sent a link abt some saguaro np trail work that was on the local nbc affiliate website to some family in sweden and they cannot see it because the eu enforces the gdpr and that is illegal so that's fine i'm sure
December 25, 2025 at 5:05 PM

December 24, 2025 at 10:35 PM
my favorite part of holiday baking in a slumpblock house is when the recipe says eggs/milk/whatever at room temperature and the house is 66F and i really don't think that is the temperature they mean but it is the temperature we get
December 24, 2025 at 8:09 PM
i haven't seen a rattlesnake this year but it has been hot enough through december
December 24, 2025 at 6:06 PM
christmas eve, a gentle steady rain, explaining to the old man that it is still hot enough for rattlesnakes and mosquitoes
December 24, 2025 at 6:02 PM

December 24, 2025 at 2:55 AM
this man (retired episcopal minister) uses his empathetic horrible news voice at the oddest time now like he starts and i think someone has died but no the bakery will only have sourdough tomorrow...

i mean that's fine? i will get some rolls? geez
December 23, 2025 at 11:46 PM
sunday before xmas, sunny and warm, and for the life of me i cannot figure out when the trailheads will be full or not. it should be today! and it wasn't. we don't have a snowbird census but like they are not down here? also tourists (i don't miss you tbh).
December 22, 2025 at 2:25 AM
have not seen any buckeye and did not see a bladderpod until today, winter solstice, very much not southern arizona spring
December 22, 2025 at 2:16 AM
it is wrapped in black and was very hard to see in the rearview mirror heading out of the eastern mesquite ranchette country
December 21, 2025 at 11:41 PM
skate country has a cybertruck
December 21, 2025 at 11:38 PM
i would like to register a complaint re: it is the winter solstice and it is still too hot to wear thicker socks but it is also very dry now so all the trail grit and wash gravel wanders into the boots and it is hard to ignore with the summer-weight socks.
December 21, 2025 at 6:42 PM
excited to a) remember that i have a nice pastry in the fridge and b) that it is the solstice so i can take my pastry for a nice solstice hike and point out all the out-of-season blooming things
December 21, 2025 at 6:34 PM
i have not seen a buckeye, gray or dark, this year. huh.
December 21, 2025 at 4:59 AM
anyway spent the spring and summer with like bits of acacia thorn in a shin for a week before i noticed and last week walked straight into a little cholla without a spine stuck in me the desert is so pokey
December 18, 2025 at 12:03 AM
I FORGOT TO CHARGE THE CAMERA BATTERY and it did not matter bc it is december even though it is kinda hot and things are blooming oddly
