spacex might have a monopoly right now but so did ford in the beginning, in any case those launch providers arent really in charge of anything and their existance depends on the business with goverment agencies

totally understand your scepticism about the world nowadays, but personally, i still have faith in many things, space agencies among those, even in adversarial countries

they employ amazing people, who want to do good work if permitted, and im glad to get to know many of them throughout the years
May 25, 2025 at 4:57 PM
and just to respond to your other points

spacex is not really in the business of space exploration, but space launches which used to be increasingly prohibitive for agencies like NASA which actually deal with exploration, especially post cold war when the budgets started to really dry up

his involvement in the design, development, and day to day problem solving knowledge at his companies is actually well documented

like its really nothing like a wozniak & jobs history, he did put in the work and thats what i liked about him, he wasnt the typical 'idea man' entrepreneur

maybe if i really dug into his life a decade back, i would find he was a real life douchebag all along, but i havent seen it then and even if sketch stuff was somewhere out there its not reasonable to expect general public to just do that work
May 25, 2025 at 8:00 AM
eh its easy to judge with foresight..

i'd like to think i can think for myself, and i did find musk 'cool' in a sense that i hold a lot of respect for giving a pulse to an industry i always cared a lot for, but had fallen into a deep depressing slump during my lifetime
May 25, 2025 at 8:00 AM
fucked up

although admittedly, i did like the post near third impact village slice-of-life in 3.0+1.0, in a somewhat fanservicey but still grounded and conceivable way

was it Anno's idea? seems like an influence he would take from his history with Miyazaki..

large collection already, maybe too large given the space but they seem to be expanding

will likely have to visit it again sometime
