30 years a surgeon—forever a writer.
Author of:
“The Wandering Jew of St. Salacious.”
Healthcare’s funniest—and unfunny moments. A novel for the now!
Pinned
An introduction of sorts. I'm a Portland-based pediatric surgeon of 30 years. And a writer for my ever. Started in standup comedy and med school at the same time.
I write about our healthcare system--which, recently, some have taken exception to.
Hmmm, wonder what that's about?
-It's in the book-
30+ years as a surgeon offered a lifetime of lessons. One of the biggest--some types of pain lie beyond the reach of a scalpel.

C'mon out and let's chat about it.

What did I learn in 30 years as a surgeon?
Pain isn't what we see, it's what we feel.
Pain can keep us safe from harm, but if it overstays its welcome, Pain becomes the harm.
And surgeons be warned, Pain can't always be reached through the tip of a scalpel.

Today, this skirmish counts as a win for democracy. The battle for the Rule of Law lies ahead.

"Now the branches come too close to grinding irrevocably against one another in a conflict that promises to diminish both. ...a losing proposition all around.

Panic Grips the White House as no one can find the VOLUME control on her mic!
"My God, does the woman have no ears?" one distant bystander shrieked.

Senator Cory Booker just broke Strom Thurmond's record, 24 hours, at the podium. A Black man speaking to elevate the rights of all, breaking the record of a White man who spoke to oppose the Voting and Civil Rights acts.
This is indeed, "Good Trouble!"

So, as of this weekend he celebrated the first 100 years! He spoke by video with his 102 year-old sister in N.Y.
Happy birthday, Dad.
Nota bene: The kid who lived through the depression and the young man who fought in WWII says, "These things I see in the news... they're not what we fought for."

"Inadvertent Leak?"
Full chat disclosure did not come until Broligarch #516 beat his iron crossed-chest, screaming, "Nothing was classified!"
Our, now, "advertent" leak shows U.S. Admin passing notes like kids in class.

A wonderful share from the other side of the globe!
This little satire about U.S. healthcare has shown up in so many far flung places.

This Paul Weiss capitulation is the most disgraceful action by a major law firm in my lifetime, so appalling that I couldn’t believe it at first.

Any lawyers at that firm—partners or associates—who don’t promptly resign will defile their moral and professional reputations beyond repair.

§ 2635.702 Use of public office for private gain.
"An employee may not use their public office for their own private gain; for the endorsement of any product, service, or enterprise."
This seems vague...
"... or for the private gain of friends, relatives..."
Really vague....

According to NYT, the Republican congress, in order to avoid a vote within 15 days on Trump’s “economic emergency” that vested him his tariff superpowers, they chose to “declare” the remaining days of the 119th congress as just “one long day.”
A long day indeed.

I know there's a thousand issues swirling, but as a surgeon who's incredibly worried about our healthcare, strong suggestion--watch this!
Brilliant!!

Well done Mr. President. You sure showed them who was boss!
And as far as the "thank you," demanded from the vice-memoirist-in-chief--yes, Дякую, President Zelensky. Thank you for risking your life to stay and fight for Ukraine. Putting yourselves between us and a destructive aggressor.

It is perfectly legal to know your rights and to educate others about them, too.

EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them.

"We're all in the same boat."
A ship had foundered in a huge storm, taking with it the captain and crew. Luckily, 50 people survived in a large wooden lifeboat. The boat was intact, but the storm water had risen to their knees. Some began to bail the water with their hands.
