I look forward to seeing how Flashes will work. It’s a BlueSky application. Insofar as Flashes integrates with BlueSky can inform us—as end users—how a Facebook-like application could also be compatible with this application and/or community.

The open source AT protocol—upon which BlueSky is built—should be able to accommodate cool new platforms over time. For example, an Instagram alternative (Flashes, from BlueSky) is supposed to be released pretty soon. Mark Cuban is openly trying to fund an AT protocol Facebook alternative.

I respect that perspective. My take is the TikTok ban is for the US oligarchs' benefit; they're parasites. The Chinese probably already have a lot of our data anyways, and our own oligarchs are parasites. The whole little red book thing is meant to screw Musk and Zuck and I'm all for that.

TIL the Chinese on the app say the app is actually called "Little Red Book." This makes sense if you know anything about the Cultural Revolution (Mao) period of their history.
