The Comptroller's report is just a small taste of the criticism that Netanyahu will be exposed to once a State Commission of Inquiry for October 7 is created - probably only after he's out of office since he'll never allow it while he's prime minister.

You're right. OTOH ... just standing up for the fundamental principle that there are laws and standards even in wartime seems pretty "radical" in today's Israel and needs to be supported.

Perhaps among the small-ish Modern Orthodox population?

And Tibon's kicker: "Netanyahu and his extremist allies probably won't even bother to learn [from] the results... Instead, they'll probably do the one thing they're truly good at: Attack Mamdani with idiotic posts for likes and shares on social media."

Personal recollection: I had just returned home from the buoyancy that was Kings of Israel Square that evening. Generally forgotten is how bi-ethnic that peace rally was - how many Arab citizens of Israel turned out. For about 1-2 hours, that, too, felt like a breakthrough. 5/

For a lengthier treatment (including a broader global context) on Substack, read "Rabin Is Still Dead." by Avrum Burg, who admirably doesn't try to make Rabin's legacy fit any given policy prescription today. avrumburg.substack.com/p/rabin-is-s... 4/

So my *speculative* extrapolation (and it's no more than that) is that Rabin would've dismissed all those fretting over recognition of Israel "as a Jewish state". 'Do we really need the world to tell us that?', I allow myself to imagine him scoffing. But ofc we'll never know. 3/

Not one of my earliest, but probably my most powerful, having just returned from the buoyancy that was Kings of Israel Square that evening. Generally overlooked is how bi-ethnic that rally was - how many Arab citizens of Israel turned out. For about 1-2 hours, that, too, felt like a breakthrough.

Truth is - we don't know what Rabin would be saying today. But we do know he was a pragmatist, a problem-solver, whose basic outlook was rational/secular, not dominated by ideology, let alone messianic ideology. 2/

I was referring to you calling me ignorant, Mr. Hogwash. What basis do you have for saying that? Do you think anonymity gives license to uncivility?
As for your take on Mr. Mamdani, I can only recall the words of the Bard in 'My Back Pages'-"Lies that life is black and white. Spoke from my skull..."

This seems like a 'Hail Mary' inasmuch as Trump is wildly unpopular with NYC voters overall: A June poll showed him with a whopping 71% unfavorable rate (-45% overall). He's hoping to steer Sliwa voters to Cuomo without costing Cuomo anti-MAGA voters.
