A good friend is visiting from WI, so we spent a beautiful fall day in RMNP. Driving home on US 36, about 2 miles east of Estes Park, this group of elk was traversing a meadow along the highway. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Since we moved to CO, my wife and I have hiked the Mitchell & Blue Lakes trail in the part of the Indian Peaks Wilderness in Brainard Lake Recreation Area to mark the beginning of our hiking season and the end. (The roads close Sunday) My brother stood in for my wife (fractured ankle) on this one.

We haven’t been able to get up into the mountains for about 2 weeks. As a substitute, today we did a loop hike following the Fowler, Spring Brook and Goshawk trails, south of Eldorado Canyon State Park CO. Photos of the Mikey Mouse Wall at the top of the loop, and Goshawk Trail back down.
