For the vets. Especially those with "nowhere to run... no place to go."

50 years ago today, rock got this invigorating transfusion.

Frothy ocean hijinks, as whipped up by 20 mph winds with gusts up to 50. Filmed from the safety of a nice, high dune, by the way. NO ONE should be on the beach proper for this. Plenty to drink in from a safe distance.

Well, kids, let's do The Time Warp again, shall we?

Happy Halloween, you rocky horrors.

Time for some creepy soundtrack music? Yeah, I'd say so...
October 30, 2025 at 7:27 PM
Almost Halloween, time to confront the demons and scary monsters. Here's your soundtrack.

If you're wondering where that sobbing sound is coming from, it happens whenever I play Zevon's fragile, indomitable farewell album, "The Wind".

Spellbinding tales to enrich your Halloween season:

Adam Roche's "The Secret History of Hollywood" is a rich collection of the stories of some classic movie makers, like SHADOWS, the Val Lewton (original Cat People) story:

Seems like a good time to revisit this one. First principles and all.

That one time when classical, silver-age artist Murphy Anderson inked my pencils on my first JLE cover, a goof take on an early JLA cover that he had also inked. A magic moment for me. Happy Birthday, Mr. Anderson.

Red sky at morning, but I’m trying not to take it personally.

BEYOND THE PROCESS is a terrific site where they focus their interviews on deep dives with comics creators on their process, influences, and career experiences, Their interview with me is up and running.

Thanks, Lance Laspina and Shane Patrick White!

How about some more music of Resistance?

ARCHANDROID from Janelle Monae. Its calls for acceptance, tolerance, and equality and resistance to oppression and exclusion are no less urgent and timely for all the fanciful (and delightful) trappings.

Dance to the beat and join the revolution.

Back from my Rousing and Inspirational #NoKings rally & march (consisting of me and my dog) and was met with the traditional hero's reward of fresh-baked blueberry cobbler ala mode.

Which is inspirational in its own way, of course.

No rallies or marches in my immediate neighborhood, so Buddy and I organized one of our own, where I'm sporting my special #NoKings #Hamilton hat.

I gotta hand it to Buddy. He knows a pretty good thing when he sees it.

Another seasonal "thin veil between" spin: Leonard Cohen's elegant, earthy bow, "You Want It Darker".

"I was fighting with temptation,
but I didn't want to win.
A man like me don't like to see
Temptation caving in."

Yikes! Alibarr Quigg is getting in the holiday spirit, I see.

WIP from the next Trekker book.

Sometimes that veil seems pretty thin indeed. David Bowie's farewell release BLACKSTAR.

AL BORN SCREAMING seems somehow pretty Halloween-appropriate. Not that I ever need additional reason to spin St. Vincent. Everything she does is remarkable. A constantly, enthrallingly-evolving artist.

Via la Revolution Rock.

Aw heck! I almost missed marking John Prine’s birthday right after spinning all of these prime Prine albums just the other day. First photo here shows his first and last albums, both completely brilliant. The others are also favs of mine from his rich and remarkable catalog.

As good as it gets.
