Because the USA, China and others don't pay their assessed contributions for peacekeeping in time, the UN is in debt to quite a few troop-providing countries, mostly from the global south.
In other words, those countries have to pay for the bad behavior of the large financial offenders. #UNbuget

This is what some countries owed to the United Nations by the end of of April 2025 because they did not yet pay their membership fees ('assessments') to the #UNbudget.

Traveling at ~300 km/h by train through Morocco (in the al-Buraq [TGV] train between Tanger & Casablanca) earlier today - in seat 61.
Going by public transport (plus a ferry to cross the Strait of Gibraltar) all the way from Brandenburg 🇩🇪 to Casablanca 🇲🇦 is possible.

Erkenntnis 1 des Tages: Die Straße von Gibraltar ist an ihrer engsten Stelle nur etwa so breit wie der Bodensee an sein breitesten. Das sieht man (aber ich hab’s auch nochmal gegoogelt: ~14 km).

This may have been the last #FifthCommittee process that went through without major problems.
As of next year, #China will pay 20% into the UN budget, close to the 22% of the 🇺🇸. And Trump takes office—likely wanting to undermine UN finances.
