Yeah, both X3 and X7 have that issue but I wouldn't say X3 is the hardest at the beginning, only because that rising fire section at the very end is (also maybe the hardest section of any X game imo). X7 at the end just gives out and wastes your time instead

...even from some preliminary wiki-ing but especially the more you play around with Zero it's kinda embarrassing.

But yeah, that kinda helped defang X7 a bit for me, but it's still easily the worst Mega Man game.

..playing where dying to the second phase of the final boss doesn't mean doing all phases over again. So I think for whether or not X7 is this passive experience or very excruciating, the answers somewhere in between.

X6 is kinda the same way but that's because the games so busted in your favor...

The intro stage is the only part of the game that boots you back to the title screen for getting a game over, the boss difficulty breaks in half with Axl's grenade launcher, the late game (even for an X game) can be facetanked with enough hearts, and it's the only Mega Man game I can ever remember..

I dunno if this is a hot take or not but what I figured out from the last time I actually played X7 is that it is at its absolute hardest, in the beginning. It just gradually gets easier from there

Actually kinda the opposite personally. I think X1's pretty cool, X2's even better and X3 is only better than X6 & X7
