I have a question for us all to ponder about the current wave of AI.

There are claims that it is going to become more effective exponentially, and all we need to do is build enough data centres with enough electricity and cooling water, and feed the LLM models all the data on the internet […]

I, with decades of experience, fell for a card scam today. Very proud.

One of the lucky career breaks I've had was writing the ACM TechNews and ACM SIGDA email news summaries from 2000-2005. It paid terribly, and I had to be at work at 6:30 a.m. but I learned a whole lot.

Anyway, I just saw that the ACM's magazine, The Communications of the Association of […]

Should we start referring to ICE and CBP as the "brute squad", or is that inconceivable? (If my nomenclature is adopted, I think that that makes Stephen Miller a rodent of unusual size.)

Dammit. My geometric scheme for Walschaerts linkage seems to be doomed. I hope I'm wrong, but it appears that part of the linkage isn't as constrained as I thought it was: there is a sliding joint that I thought was fixed. I am daunted, but not yet defeated. Possibilities include simultaneous […]

I think Niels dumps a bit harder on Scrun / Agile than necessary, but this article raises some important issues and offers some interesting approaches to real problems. Worth consideration.
