Record label manager, freelance writer, guitar slinger, occasional gadfly — mostly in that order.
“Billie and I met, and I said, ‘Look, our goal here would just be to shoot your show. I don’t want to impose myself as a director.’ In fact, I even offered her, ‘Why don’t we co-direct this? I’ll just show up with cameras and record it, essentially.’” — James Cameron, to Matthew Belloni for The Town

Caught a few shots of Jim Steranko and Larry Lieber in conversation at this weekend's @bigapplecomiccon.bsky.social

Between the two of them, they've seen over 100 years of hustle, hard work and triumph in the comics game. Absolute legends, and very nearly the last ones standing from a bygone era.

Mani was just the nicest guy, with a whip-cracking sense of humor. Interviewed him back in 2006 when Primal Scream released Riot City Blues and he had me in stitches for nearly an hour. Let the tribute parties begin…

I’ve been a committed Yoko fan since I first came across a pristine copy of Approximately Infinite Universe at Waterloo Records in Austin back in ‘96. She’s a genius, and John obviously knew it too.

I’ll never understand the haters. www.thenation.com/article/cult...

Well, other sources say otherwise, which presumably is why the Times ran with it. www.facebook.com/share/p/1D8h...

I’ve heard he was working on a new record with Raphael Saadiq, a team-up which by itself is as tantalizing and poignant as his entire career has been. Just mind-boggling, genre-stretching talent. www.newyorker.com/culture/post...

It’s her spiritual closer here that really gets me. Just poignant, poetic and powerful.

Well this sucks — but I’ll bet Brent is looking for a jam with Sky Dog right about now. Fly on, brother.

Sorry but I don’t need the New Yorker giving me 10,000 words of what is largely a puff piece when we’ve already had the NYT magazine producing the exact same back in January.

Sunlight is no disinfectant to these cranks. If anything it’s essential to prolonging their 15 minutes.

Yes, so many “important” New Yorker puff pieces on the toxic right-wing grifter-of-the-moment taking up space that could have been devoted to say, an in-depth exposé on the broligarchy’s takeover of our economy, or the erosion of civil rights under Trump, or any other subject of value to its readers

Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals rocked a beautiful outdoor show last night at Pier 17. The weather held up nicely, and so did the Brooklyn Bridge.

Henry Threadgill, Vijay Iyer and Dafnis Prieto looking pretty pumped after a high-flying and dynamic set at the Jazz Gallery, NYC. Hopefully these guys are recording!

Reminiscing over Steve Gunn’s solo show at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom back in Dec 2021 (with Jeff Parker opening). He wrapped his set with a beautiful off-mic ode to “Way Out Weather,” the title track from his 2014 album, and all suddenly felt right with the world.

Them times, them changes.
