Backups / accessing older notes on the go.
Many people carry around pocket notebooks or even their bigger journals, but unless you’re carrying around all of your past ones too, you can’t actually find a note in an older notebook unless you’ve manually transcribed it somewhere.

Lack of search makes finding notes very difficult, which is obvious. The bullet journal system tries to solve for this by utilizing an index in the front of your notebook.
In general, this works decently, but only if you know ahead of time that something might be important later.
