“After Mr. Paul learned from his wife that the authorities were threatening to deport her without a hearing, he said, their lawyer filed a lawsuit in federal court in San Diego to halt her removal &secure her release.
In response, the government approved Ms. Paul’s green card on Tuesday & freed her”

5. And of course, Madison Keys finally breaking her duck in her 2nd (and last?) major final by outhitting Sabalenka after squeezing out a tight one against Iga in the semifinals of the ”The Happy Slam”

4. The hatching and snatching! Vicki Mboko in Montreal Canada and Mirra Andreeva at the Dubai Open AND then following it up at Indian Wells (2 consecutive 1000s titles, in _this_ economy?)

3. Amanda Anisimova winning one of the best matches of the year against Sabalenka in Wimbledon semifinals only to receive a brutal 0-6 0-6 drubbing from Iga and somehow manage to win ANOTHER one of the best matches of the year (USO semifinal against Osaka) to reach 2 consecutive major finals.

2. Coco outlasting, outplaying, outthinking Sabalenka in the final after Aryna bagelled Iga in the RG semifinals!

Mmm I remember reading Greenwell and being disappointed by the “temperature” of the smut.

But now that I think about it, there is a fair amount of sex in Taylor’s “filthy animals” (the short story collection), which is probably my favorite of his after the first book, “Real Life.”

Maybe Alan Hollinghurst?

Which Brandon Taylor book had Dec scenes?

Exactly! What the TV show adaptation does very well from the books is that one way of looking at the story is that it’s a workplace comedy, with a dreadful boss and iffy coworkers (at the Park AND at Slough House). With machine guns and international sociopolitical implications. #SlowHorses

What makes the “Slow Horses” books so compelling in my eyes (in addition to the crackerjack writing) is the unusual combination of humor, thriller, and Herron’s cold-blooded commitment to killing off his characters. The Lamb-Taverner axis is interesting but not the best part, IMHO.

Wow. Just wow. “Revised edition, now with obfuscation!”
