whenever I encounter interoperability I am envious of the people who thought it worthwhile to invest the time to get what must've taken lots of paperwork and approvals, because so much of my time in federal service was people just saying no to shit all the time

People who are opposed to any kind of regime running on Gen AI have to exercise our capacity to address it beyond its flaws. Flaws are opportunities to anyone looking for more money bc it gives them something to “fix.” Don’t get stuck in the “flaws.” Think about foundations.

In most design you have a very small circle of what the product is expected to do. With LLMs you have a very wide circle that you try to limit as best as you can. Understanding this will tell you why it is risky to implement into systems that need precise circles.

well and eventually seeing themselves helping not just being a consumer. churches et al are full of people keeping the lights on literally. that gets obscured in a culture that's so invested in "showing up and being served"

Lots of people would be open, but feel inadaquate & having more structures to help sustain, support and collaborate would make the infrastructure of community orgs a lot easier to maintain.
I'm not talking about the social services layer even, I mean 50s style social volunteer orgs even.

For those trying to figure out where to invest, the answer is reviving and sustaining community-based groups. Even more than that, we need more training to help people sustain them. So many people burn themselves out taking over groups, and eventually the flame burns out.
