some thoughts of mine. i hate writing whole threads, so here is text condensed in two images. alt text available.
Some thoughts of mine: I think a lot of this negativity stems from the idea that artistic value is directly tied to a follower count, and that's prevalent in a profoundly capitalist online space obsessed with numbers. It can feel pointless to share work if no one sees it. That makes it easy to constantly compare yourself to bigger artists and internalize low numbers as "less worth," especially if you struggle with self-esteem. I do agree that constant negativity is off-putting. It’s like having a friend who drains all the energy out of the room by always complaining. Most people just don't have the emotional bandwidth for that. But i think the root cause matters (at least that's what I believe it is): people need to know their worth isn’t actually tied to a number. Sometimes quality really is better than quantity. 1/2 You might say though: “art is my livelihood, I need an audience.” Fair. I'm not an artist. I don't know social media, I mostly hate it. I only draw for fun when I have time. Take this with a grain of salt. But I genuinely believe that not performing for numbers, and not defining yourself by them, takes a huge weight off your shoulders. Once you stop seeing yourself as valuable only if thousands of people validate you, a lot of that negativity loses its grip. Also, therapy helps. If you can afford it. Or you can talk with a good friend about it who'll understand you. Anyway, that's all. 2/2

Thing I did with some Lidl markers. They bleed like hell and are hard to control, but the colors are pretty!
