Very sad news today. Anthony E. Marks has passed away. He conducted pioneering prehistoric research in the Nile Valley, the southern Levant and Arabia, producing seminal works on the Palaeolithic. In 2023, aged 85, he still joined the @arduq.bsky.social excavations in Dhofar, Oman. Rest in peace.

Just took an international train from Annaba in #Algeria to Tunis in #Tunisia (reopened Aug 2024). Breathtaking scenery in early May, very green and full of flowers! One of the great train journeys in the world, not to be missed! @seatsixtyone.bsky.social #iloverailwaytrips

Beautiful stuff! More than 500 figures of camels, hunters, horses, turtles, cuttlefish, medusas, ostriches and lions, and 200 inscriptions in South Arabian script. Quite unique variety for the whole of Arabia. Hopefully this open-air gallery will be published in full and promoted.
