But what if we consider an autonomous AI agent programmed with a very general objective such as 'be an inspiring artist', and is able to evolve, reprogram, and develop its own art? Would it push society to deconstruct the author-function or would it consider the agents as a human-like author?

Of course, Damien Hirst, with all his colllaborators, still is a recognized artist and his name matters. He is still considered as the one who is the "creator". If he would employ say 50 human collaborators and fifty artificial ones, I guess that would not change./...

It's not dead yet and even not unconscious. Network-effects still make it a repository of lots of truly interesting information and opinions (and of course of lots and lots of BS).
