The Last Church is my second favorite piece of 40k media. Because goddammit the emperor is both correct and a complete fucking dumbass. Not believing in the gods probably robs the chaos of ower. However the idea that pure reason would replace faith is silly because congrats you have a new religion.

The alternative was starving them. lets be frank about what the choices were. either the use of nuclear weapons, a series of bloody island assaults, or starvation. there *was* no peace offer from the japanese.

invading germany in WW2 was materially easier than an invasion of japan. once you get on the european mainland its a relatively simple proposition of running supply lines forwards from warehouses in Britain. Japan is an island archipelago, which means you have to supply multiple amphibious operation
