Posting articles and other media about NOAA and related topics. Lover of science, data, satellites, oceans, coasts, marine organisms, weather, climate modeling, fishers, and coastal communities. My personal views only. This is not a government account.
Wishing the best to all of our veterans, today and everyday. You served our country, many of you paying some price for that. Special shout out to NOAA Corps and all who served NOAA. Please know you were and are deeply appreciated.

Comparing the two. Who deserved a peace prize? Who provided affordable health insurance to our country? Who fed starving children, globally? Pretty stark difference in moral character, I’d say.

Feds, money may be getting tight. I’ve been looking for programs to help Feds during the shutdown. Here is a pet supply giveaway in Maryland. There may be similar in other areas. If you find resources, please post with a CC to me and I’ll re-post!

It would be great to have gentle snow for the holiday season, but not too bitter cold. Maybe we could order on up!

Let’s catch this guy:

“The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is searching for a man wanted for allegedly decapitating a sea lion in Pacific Grove.”

Historically, I’ve liked the color orange. I mean, it’s a non traditional color for people beyond Oompa-Loompas, but, you know…trying to be nice.

Science is needed to manage and protect these species, as well an understand their role in marine ecosystems. If you are an advocate for pinnipeds, call your Senator and tell them to support NOAA’s conservation mission.

Red coastal states have historically benefited from NOAA science, grants, programs, and other fed investments. Those along the Gulf of Mexico have disproportionately benefited from federal recovery and assistance programs after disasters.

If we look at P2025 (image of relevant page included). The admin’s argument is people don’t rely on NWS for forecasts anyway. The goal is to shift NWS to provision of data to commercial service providers and de-emphasize forecasting. Accu weather is mentioned, specifically, in the document.

See reference to marine mammals and endangered species in Project 2025. They are “modifying” the MMPA and ESA to increase exploitation of marine resources. They are not interested in managing habitat or protected biodiversity.

Project 2025 dictates that NOAA be “dismantled.”

Conservation means making space for wildlife where they show up. It’s also about not degrading or polluting their habitats. Sea turtles need our help. Beach folks, no lights bc this confuses hatchlings. Control domestic predators. No trash in the ocean… See some? Pick it up. Finally, let them…be.
